To Help You Study
Do you know that you have a personal Tutor at your side as you study the Bible? He is always available to help you understand what it means and how it applies to you. He is the Author of the Book – the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ said of Him,
"... He shall teach you all things ... " and " ... He will guide you into all truth ..." – John 14:26, and 16:13
The Holy Spirit teaches us through our personal study of the Bible and through God-appointed pastors and teachers. One does not substitute for the other — we need both private study and the teaching of godly men.
Ask for the Spirit's guidance and teaching as you study and as you consider how to apply the Word to your life. A good prayer from the Book of Psalms is:
"Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law." – Psalm 119:18
For your personal Bible study, you need:
A Time — Just as church attendance is planned for a regular time each week, you should plan a time for your Bible study. Some like to study a little every day; others set aside an evening a week. Decide on a time that is best for you, then stick to it faithfully.
A Place — Choose a quiet place for your Bible study, free from distractions. If possible study in the same place each time.
Material — Beside your study book Fellowship With Christ you need a pen or pencil and a complete Bible — Old and New Testaments.
Method — As you consider each verse of Scripture, think about it carefully, then write your answer. It's also helpful to read the context (the surrounding verses) of each passage listed. Write the answers in your own words whenever possible. By doing three or four questions a day — or a chapter a week — you will complete this book in one month.
A page of definitions at the end of the book will help you with difficult words.
